Apple is the most important species of fruit trees in the temperate climate zone. The consumption of apples is increasing, consumer demand is also growing. Therefore, good quality apples is an important factor in the development of apple orchards and the profitability of producing these fruit.
One of the most important issues in apple cultivation is providing trees with the right nutrients in the amounts needed for proper tree development and growth. Therefore, the method of plant nutrition and the choice of fertilizers whose nutrients should be easily available to plants is of great importance. Equally important is the date of application of fertilisers, so that nutrients are supplied to various parts of plants (trunk, shoots, buds, leaves, fruit) in the right time.
Presently, foliar treatments are an integral part of the mineral nutrition programs for fruit trees. They should be carried out in every orchard, also in those planted on fertile soils, maintained in good culture and grown under optimal weather conditions, to:
- support supplying plants with major nutrients: nitrogen (PLONVIT NITRO or PLONVIT NITROMAG), phosphorus (PLONVIT PHOSPHO or PLONVIT FOSTAR), potassium (PLONVIT KALI or PLONVIT KALPRIM), magnesium (MIKROKOMPLEX), sulphur (PLONVIT SULVIT)
- provide plants with ingredients that are difficult to be taken from soil, e.g. boron (MIKROVIT BORON TURBO, MIKROVIT BORON) and phosphorus (PLONVIT PHOSPHO or PLONVIT FOSTAR)
- support supplying trees with not mobile nutrients in plants – calcium (OPTYCAL, PLONVIT CALCIUM TURBO)
- directly affect fruit colour – manganese (MIKROCHELAT Mn-13, AMINO ULTRA Mn-22 or MIKROVIT MANGANESE), phosphorus (PLONVIT PHOSPHO or PLONVIT FOSTAR), potassium (PLONVIT KALI or PLONVIT KALPRIM)
• stimulate plants and improve their condition and resistance to stress (TYTANIT, OPTYSIL).
The good condition of apple trees throughout the growing season determines the yield of apples.
Even short-term nutrient deficiency may have a negative impact on plant growth and yield. Therefore, it is necessary comprehensive assessment of the requirements of the plants at any stage of their development. This will allow them to be fed properly and bio-stimulate them.
We indicate possibilities of increasing the natural resistance of plants to abiotic and biotic stresses, as well as the capability of accelerating the recovery of plants after the occurrence of stressful conditions. The biostimulants: TYTANIT, OPTYSIL play an important role in these activities.
Particularly noteworthy are the highly alkaline fertiliser ALKALIN PK 10:20, which, in addition to the basic functions of bringing in nutrients, have shielding properties for plants.
All of these discussed actions significantly affect the yield increase and its quality parameters.
