Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) is one of the most commonly grown soft fruit crop in the World. The fruit is offered for direct consumption, as well as for processing, mainly for deep freezing.
Blueberry plants are grown in temperate climatic zones. Plants require acidic soils (pH 3-4,5), light and rich in humus.
Rapid and strong growth of shoots, intensive development of vegetative parts of plants, long vegetation period and high yield require not only appropriate plant management (cutting), but also proper plant nutrition and stimulation. Blueberry plants have high requirements for nitrogen (N) which effects plant growth and yield quantity and quality. Soil applied nitrogen should be supported by foliar application of nitrogen, especially at critical growth stages such as intensive shoot and leaf growth, inflorescence development and beginning of fruit development. For all those stages foliar fertilizers such as PLONVIT® NITROMAG or PLONVIT® NITRO could support plants with proper dose of nitrogen and other macro- and microelements as well.
Although the requirements of blueberries for phosphorus (P) are not high, proper supplying plants with this nutrient guarantees energy for proper growth and development, proper development of roots, intensive fruit colouring and their high quality. The use of PLONVIT® FOSTAR or PLONVIT® PHOSPHO fertilizer before the flowering of plants and during the growth of fruit makes the supply of this ingredient is at an optimum level even in the conditions of limited availability of phosphorus from the high acidic soil.
High yield of blueberry and quality of fruit are influenced by other macronutrients, especially potassium (K), for which the plants of that species have the highest demand among all macronutrients. Potassium is mainly responsible for the size, taste and colour of the fruit, which is important not only for fruit offered for direct consumption, but also for processing. Foliar applied PLONVIT® KALPRIM or PLONVIT® KALI could significantly improve supplying plants with potassium, especially during inflorescence development and fruit development of plants grown in light and acid soils.
Fruit quality and tolerance to some fungal diseases results from supplying plants with calcium (Ca) which availability on acidic soils is limited. Foliar application of fertilizer PLONVIT® CALCIUM TURBO increases fruit firmness and resistance of fruit to mechanical damages.
Rapid growth and development of plants and the proper process of pollination, fruit setting and flower bud initiation for the next year after fruit harvesting require proper supply with microelements, especially boron (B), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu). Those nutrients have direct effect on a number of natural plant processes such as photosynthesis, pollination, fruit set and fruit development, sugar and acid metabolism etc. The effective source of microelements are: AMINO ULTRA® Fe-20 or MIKROCHELAT™ Fe-13, AMINO ULTRA® Mn-22 or MIKROCHELAT™ Mn-13, AMINO ULTRA® Zn-24 or MIKROCHELAT™ Zn-15 and AMINO ULTRA® Cu-24 or MIKROCHELAT™ Cu-15. Also, since boron is hardly available to plants from acid soils, foliar application of MIKROVIT® BORON TURBO could supply plants with proper dose of easy and quickly available boron to improve pollination, fruit set processes and increase fruit quality.
The good condition of plants throughout the growing season determines the yield of blueberry.
Even short-term nutrient deficiency may have a negative impact on plant growth and yield. Therefore, it is necessary comprehensive assessment of the requirements of the plants at any stage of their development. This will allow them to be fed properly and bio-stimulate them. This will allow them to be properly fed and biostimulated. INTERMAG’s wide range of products, allows you to develop your own individual foliar fertilization and biostimulation program, considering local soil conditions, crop intensity, stage of plant development and availability of various products.
All of these discussed actions significantly affect the yield increase and its quality parameters.
